Description:
The Marx Museum of Local Lore has arisen from the community museum of K. Marx and F. Engels founded in 1987. In 1991, it was registered as a branch of the Saratov Regional Museum of Local Lore. The museum is housed in a two-story detached building erected in the early XX century. The first National State Museum of the Volga Germans used to be located there from 1919 till 1941. The museum is peculiar for its ethnographic collection that gives account of occupations, trades and various household activities of the people of Ekaterinenshtadt - the first settlement of the German craftsmen on the Volga. The collection comprises carpenter and blacksmith tools, unique furniture articles, basketry, things of braided straw, embroidery and textiles. All those items are displayed at the permanent exhibition "The history of Ekaterinenshtadt-Baronsk-Ekaterinengrad-Marxshtadt-Marx". Among other things, it tells about deportation of the Volga Germans in 1941. Nowadays, the museum is among the most attractive cultural, educational and leisure centers in Marx
