The museum was founded by a group of enthusiasts as a folk museum, designed to tell the history of the city, the ways of life, handicrafts of our countrymen through traditions, local lifestyle, arts of the people who lived and are living in Lytkarino. The museum's collection includes a collection of paleontology, archeology, objects of folk life, art, including ancient Russian paintings, coins, documents, and photographs. Since 1999,within the museum operates the city planetarium.
