The Museum was orened on 1 May 1935, at first it was a memorial of S.M.Kirov who had made a remarkable contribution to the development of the Khibiny region. In 1993 the Museum changed its status - now it is the Kirovsk Historical and Regional Studies Museum and the Memorial of S.M.Kirov. In the constant museum exposition there are origional exhibits showing the history of investigation of the Khibiny that was closely connected with the name of academician A.E.Fersman; the foundation of the apatite industry on the Kola Peninsula; the construction of the town of Khibinogorsk (Kirovsk). A separate expositional hall is devoted to Kirovsk and its citizens during the Great Patriotic War. In 1995 a new expositional hall "Peculiarities of the Khibiny nature and ecology" was opened. The main exhibit of the Museum is the Memorial Geologist House.
