Lipetskiy museum of local lore in one of the oldes museums in the central earth zone. It was founded in 1909 by the Petrovsky society of popularizing scientific and applied knowledge. Among the initiators of wich were M.P. Trunov, a doctor of the Zipetsh spa, and V.I. Zhukov, a painter, poet and student of local lore.

    The museum preserves and displays a lot historically valuable exhibits on archeologu, ethnography, and history of religion. There is also a collection of painting and decorative and applied art. The number of objects, pictorial and documentary material on display is considerable: 117250 items of the basic fund and 59280 items of the subsidiary fund
