In 1970 at the initiative of M.A. Sholokhov in the village Old Cherkassk the historical and architectural memorial estate nowadays included in tourist reference books of UNESCO is created. The old Cherkassk memorial estate is based on a unique complex of monuments of the XVII-XIX centuries of the former capital of the Don Cossacks of Cherkassk.

    In the museum the following exhibitions constantly work: the main historical exposition "From the Wild field to Old Cherkassk", "Efremov' Cossack family", "As at us was on the Quiet Don", "Traditions of the Cossack cuisine", "Memorable places of the Art. Old Cherkassk", "Maidan and Resurrection Cathedral", "Kazaki-nekrasovtsy", "An inner world of the Cossack". In the museum various cultural events focused on visitors of various age groups are carried out. Among them interactive excursions for pupils and concert programs of folklore staff of the museum
