The Museum is opened from July 1, 1968. Currently, the Art Museum of Local Lore has three departments: the Department of History and Local History, the Department of Fine Arts and Arts and Crafts Department and Military-patriotic work Department.

    The priority areas of activity in the museum exposition are: the history of Don Cossacks, the history of the city Uryupinsk, downy trade(business) of inhabitants - breeding goats, down breed technology and the manufacture of fluff, as well as paintings by local artists (the artist of world renown I.I. Mashkov(1881-1944) and others).

    In addition to tours of museum's halls, there are guided tours around the city: walking tour of the historic city "Where it all began..." and a bus tour of the historical and memorable places of the city "My city over Choper." Also historic sites are shown such as: Church of the Intercession with Uryupinsk Appearance of the Icon of the Mother of God, the Holy of Holies on the source of the mountains, the house of Joseph Stalin's grandson - Yevgeny Dzhugashvili, the house of the writer D.I. Petrov-Biryuk, merchant houses of the XIX century and many others. Among the city's memorable places the most interesting ones are: a monument to Goat, sculpture "Seamstress," sculpture composition on a story by Mikhail Sholokhov "The Destiny of Man", the Arch of Honor of the Appearance of the Icon Uryupinsk Mother of God
