The Museum of Local Lore, in the town of Spassk-Ryazansky was founded in 1918 on the initiative of the postmaster and student of local lore Alexander Fyodorov. It was one of the first museums of local lore in Russia. The museum was founded with the purpose of keeping and researching the town-site of Old Ryazan, the worldknown historical and architectorial memorial. During its existence the museum was closed down and opened again three times. In 1969 after almost a 10-year interual the museum opened the doors wide to its visitors. The earliest displays were not remained but they are knowb to be rich dinner and tea sets, paintings by famous artists, cupboards and the Gospel of a huge size. These things were nationalized from churches, landowners and noblemen. The only remained display dated back to time is a unique bookcase from the Decembrist M. Lukin's estate. In 1983 the Museum remoued to a twostoreyed building in the centre of the town
