The Regional Centre of art creativity for study and production was founded in 1994 in Veliky Novgorod. Gavrilova Galina Viktorovna, Honoured Culture Worker of the Russian Federation, was the initiator of its foundation. She became its first director. Honoured artist of the Russian Federation Varentcov Aleksandr Alekseevich and Honoured Culture Worker Zarakovskaya Inessa Leonidovna shared her views and gave support. The joining of professional creative powers and popularization of the modern art of Novgorod Region were the aims of the foundation of the centre with exhibition halls. The museum of modern art was intended to be founded since the first day of the work of the Centre. First artwoks were presented to the Centre by leading professional artists of Veliky Novgorod on the 8th of April 1994. It was a base of the future museum. On the 12th of April 1994 first exhibition of visual and applied art began its work. There were 27 artworks by professional Novgorod artists shown. About 200 exhibitions of visual and applied art were being organized in the Centre from 1994 till 2002. There were woks of art by artists from Veliky Novgorod and Novgorod region, different places in Russia and from abroad. The Centre was closely collaborating with artists participating in it's exhibitions that is why the funds were constantly being enlarged. So, the collection of the Centre had amounted 2000 units of storage, presented by Novgorod artists, by 2002. In 2002 The State Arts and Culture Museum of Novgorod Land was founded on the base of the Centre. Nowadays the collection of the State Arts and Culture Museum of Novgorod Land includes more than 5000 artworks by Novgorod artists from the end of 20th century till the beginning of 21st century. There are paintings, graphics, sculptures, glass, porcelain, personal artists` documentation.The level of exposition corresponds to the highest world museum standards and traditions. There are artworks fulfilled in different techniques: watercolour, pastel, etching, pencil, linocut etc. Applied art deserves special attention: Gobelin, batik, works made of glass and porcelain carrying on the tradition of the largest porcelain works in the northwest - the Kuznetcovs` plants
