Kurgan Aviation Museum was founded as the departmental museum of Kurgan airport in 1985 thanks to enthusiasm of the former pilot of the civil aviation I.M.Semyonov. The exhibition of aviation machinery was made on the territory of the airport in 1993. In 2003 the branch of the state institution “Kurgan Regional Natural History Museum”- “Kurgan Aviation Museum” was created on the basis of the non-state aviation museum according to the Order of the Kurgan Region Committee of Art and Culture.

    In the building of the museum you can see the exhibition devoted to the history of civil aviation and at the nearby territory – the exhibition of war, civil and sport aviation machinery – 14 flying machines all in all.

    The Museum of Aviation is the only museum of Ministry of Culture of Russia of this kind. One of the most popular events of the museum is a great show of aviation machinery “The Day of Open Cabins” held annually on City Day and on the Day of Air Fleet of Russia
