Description:

The Complex includes two museums: “The Joiner’s Shop” and “The Grocer’s Shop”.

“The Grocer’s Shop” is a typical 19th-century private shop. Entering the shop you will hear the doorbell ring. You will be greeted by a friendly shop assistant who will begin advertising his goods. On the shelves you will see various merchandise: tobacco and lace, an arshin ruler and forged nails, a sugar-loaf and a bonbonniere, and many other things.

Nearby, in “The Joiner’s shop”, you will see how old craftsmen worked at the joiner’s bench and the lathe. You will see furniture, which was made by the light of oil lamps. Here you will be taught to make traditional Russian bast shoes and different other things.

Old household items, tools, documents and photographs will help you to understand the peculiarities of everyday life and labor in old Simbirsk.

The Complex was opened in 2002 and is situated on the territory of the Chernovs’ mansion
