Description:
F.M. Reshetnikov's Literary-Memorial House was opened in the old two-storey privat residence in Proletarskaya street on October 1, 1991. The house seems to have no connection with the life of the Ural writer though the city legends say it was he who was born in the family of the Yekaterinburg's postman. The house was built by the merchant Karnaukhov in 1840s. The last owner of the house was the local postmaster's wife who let its rooms to post employees. The literary and memorial parts of the museum are closely connected as the writer was born in postman's family, brought up by his uncle, a post employee, and many heroes of Reshetnikov's works were postmen and coachmen. Therefore the narration about the writer's life and works is transferred to the narration about the post service in the 19th century, its traditions and customs. In the museum the coachmen's room, stable and coach-house are reproduced. Here the items of traveling life, post coaches, household utensils and everything that reproduces the atmosphere of the Ural post-stead of the second half of the 19th century are displayed
