Description:
The cultural center "Beriozka" was opened on April 28, 2022 in Saint Petersburg by founders of the "New Art Studies" fund Kristina Sasonko and Ekaterina Dubrovskaia. The collection and exhibition activities of the center are based on Russian art of the 20th century, presenting the names of both official masters and artists of the Soviet underground. The center also includes two exhibition halls, a cinema-lecture hall and a cafe. The cultural center based on the legendary "Beriozka" store on Lermontovsky Prospekt at the Hotel "Sovetskaya" (now it is called the Azimut Hotel). The hotel was built in 1961-1967 by architects E. Levinson, A. Pribulsky, V. Gankevich, and is an important object of modernism architecture: at one time it became one of the first high-rise buildings in Leningrad. Various educational programs are implemented within at the cultural center: lectures on the theme of exhibitions, film screenings and a movie club, concert programs, literary readings, public talks with artists, researchers, and collectors
