State budgetary culture institution the gallery "Íodynka" was opened on 15 October, 1987. The gallery has got two exposition halls: 107,8 sq.m and 63,7 sq.m. The main objective of the hall's activity is the organization of various exhibitions, art events and programmes that allow Moscow residents to get acquainted with the widest range of modern domestic and foreign fine arts in their different forms, the best pieces of national arts and crafts.
The gallery "Íodynka" is the main site for children's artistic development in the North-West Region of Moscow. It also holds annual festivals of children's art: "Christmas album" (The annual festival of children's orthodox art), "I see the world" (The annual spring festival of children's art). The gallery also organises the local festival for disabled people "I am the same as you", as well as the open local festival of poetry "Moscow salutes". In addition to carrying out its chief function, i.e. organizing exhibitions, the gallery "Hodynka" is now rapidly becoming a site that hosts various clubs, concerts of classical instrumental and vocal music. It also organises lectures on art history, thematic excursions to the expositions, meetings with artists, critics, collectors and writers. In accordance with the programme "Culture and youth" the gallery holds exhibitions of young artists' and photographers' works (from 2 to 5 personal exhibitions a year, along with young artists' involvement in larger exhibitions).
In October 2010 on the basis of the agreement between the Department of culture of the North-West District and the Department of social protection of the North-West District's residents the gallery launched "the University of the Arts for the advanced age" that features "expressive therapy" classes (unlike art therapy, expressive therapy combines various forms of arts). The programme aims to introduce students, whose age varies from 55 to 85 years, to the creation of various arts studied at the university (literature, fine arts, drama, music) over the course of 4 years
