The museum was founded in 1964. Its area is 402 m2. It is situated in an old building. This building is an architectural monument. The museum has got many rich interesting collections consisted of 7600 copies. It has got 12 halls. One of these halls was built according to a people construction project method .It is a hall of N. K. Rerikh. There are many reproductions of his pictures presented by the Donskoi Rerikh's Society here.

    Altaiskiy District is a centre of the gardening in Altai Region. Cheese "Sovetskiy" was produced here in 1931.

    In 2007 thanks to our museum in the village Katun was openned E.G. Gustshin museum. Every year we organize the literature readings in honor of this writer.

    In 2008 the people of the village celebrated the 200 anniversary of its founding, in honour of this date the museum published a book "The Main Wealth of Three Times Altai Land - People".

    It is dedicated 104 famous men and women of Altai District. Our land brought up 7 Heroes of the Soviet Union, a Hero of Russia, 14 Heroes of the Socialist Work, 30 honoured people of the Russian Federation. You can find the information about these people in the museum too.

    Many visitors come to the museum all the year round especially in summer. That's why the museum employees take care of quality and culture of the excursions, of the beauty of the museum grounds. Every year they become better
