The building was erected as a social service, by the design of the architect M Suslov not far from the birthplaceof V.I. Chapaev (the village of Budaika which is nowadays Chapaev street). The museum was opened on May 9, 1974. Works of monumenta-decorativ art were used in the arrangement of the building. The exhibits of the museum show V.I. Chapaev, his brathers - in - arm, representatives of military dinasty, the division named after V.I. Chapaev, tell about our countrymen who follow the fighting traditions of the legendary divisional commander. The house where V.I. Chapaev was born was transported and set next to the museum in the 1986. The historical exposition of suburban peasantsmode of life at the end of the XIX century characteristic of the Chapaev was created in it. Thus the memorial complex in nonour of the legendary divisional commander was founded in Cheboksary, his home-land.The Chapaev museum (1974), Memorial house-museum (1986), the memorial wall with the Bas-relieves of Chapaev's brjthers-in-arm (1974), the monuments to V.I. Chapaev (1960) and the square named after V.I. Chapaev (1960) are included there.
