The decision to create a local-history museum in a coal town was made in June 24, 1974. Six years later, In June 25, 1980 there was a solemn presentation of the museum. The museum is going on to develop. Every year more than 30 exhibitions on different themes are organized. The main orientation of the museum's work is developing of local-history as a special form of scientific, cognitive and educational work in cultivating of patriotism, the sense of civil duty and love to our homeland; museum pedagogy, realization of educational programme "I and my town". The aim of this programme is broadening raising of educational space, moral up-bringing and the bringing up of a patriot and a citizen. Education in the tradition of folk culture through creative esthetic activity in a "School of masters". Moral up-bringing through achievements of educational programme "Fundamentals of the Orthodox faith". The museum introduced actively the new forms of work with its the visitors such as ethnic marriage, birthday, graduation party, theatrical lessons for children, "A night in a museum"
