The Museum-Reserve of M.A. Sholokhov founded on July, 11, 1984, for perpetuation of the memory of the great Russian writer, is a system of memorial, historic-ethnographic and natural sights. One can see here all that was connected with the life and art of Sholokhov - his personal belongings, manuscripts, letters, houses, where the writer lived, villages and stanitsas, natural sights, monuments of culture and architecture, which were depicted in his works and, in particular, in his great novel "And Quiet Flows the Don".

    In 2006, the Museum-Reserve of M.A. Sholokhov was included into the State Register of the Most Valuable Cultural Heritage Structures of the Peoples of the Russian Federation. It comprises 19 monuments of history and culture, 5 monuments of nature and 256 archaeological monuments. The cherished landscape zone is 38236 ha. There the Cossack culture, life tenor traditions and natural environment are preserved - the majestic River Don, flood-land woods, vast steppes. All these is a unique "Open Air Novel" discovering the world of Sholokhov and his personages, which is "read" by thousands of tourists from different parts of the world. The Museum-Reserve is active in carrying out a wide expositional, keeping, scientific-research, educational, ecological and tourist activities, takes part in the all-Russian and international projects. The Children's Museum Centre realizes the activities "The Museum of M.A. Sholokhov - for the Young Generation" devised for children of different age. The Museum-Reserve holds annual international scientific-practical conferences, all-Russian literary-folklore holiday "Sholokhov Spring" devoted to the birthday of M.A. Sholokhov, literary-ethnographic holiday "Kruzhilin Gathering" bearing an air of the old village life and displaying Cossack modes of agricultural land use traditional for the XIX-XX centuries
