The Literary museum of the Institute of Russian Literature (the Pushkin House) RAS is the first and the largest national literary museum in Russia. It was founded in 1905. There are more than 200 thousand works of art, documental and everyday-historical things related to Russian literature of 19-20 centuries. Аlso thеre is the greatest collection of personal belongings of Russian writers and poets, such as Alexander Pushkin, Vasily Zhukovsky, Nikolai Gogol, Mikhail Lermontov, Leo Tolstoy, Ivan Turgenev, Fyodor Dostoevsky and others .

    The main part of the permanent exhibition includes the room dedicated to Russian literature of the first half of the 19-th century (Derzhavin, Pushkin, Zhukovsky, Gogol, and others), two monographic rooms devoted to the life of M. Lermontov and L. Tolstoy and the room devoted to Russian literature of the last third of the 19-th century (I. Turgenev, I. Goncharov, F. Dostoevsky, Grand Duke Konstantin Konstantinovich (K. R.) and others). A separate part of the exhibition is devoted to Russian literature of the Silver Age (late 19-th - early 20-th centuries) - one of the most exciting periods of Russian culture and contains the materials about such authors as Anton Chekhov, Dmitry Merezhkovsky, Fyodor Sologub, Vyacheslav Ivanov, Nikolai Gumilev, Anna Akhmatova, Alexander Blok, Andrei Bely, Maxim Gorky and many others
