In November of 1973 in Norilsk the national picture gallery was open to the public. In 1978 it was granted a new status and became the most northern state art museum of Russia, the center and the organizer of the town artistic life.

    Nowadays about 6000 exhibits are kept in the store-rooms. The gallery possesses a large collection which gives agood idea of Russian trends and directions of the second half of XX century. "Gold Fund" consists works of the members of the Academy of fine arts of the Russian Federation people's artists E. Bragovsky, A. Gritzai, G. Korzhev, E. Cybric, P. Obrosov.

    In the rooms of the gallery one can see works by painters from Krasnoyarsk, Irkutsk, Omsk, and Novosibirsk. Pride of the museum collection - invaluable works of the Siberian painter A. Posdeyev. The gallery also contains works by outstanding Taimyr painters, such as G. Knyazhevsky, N. Loy, E. Goncharova, N. Sviridov, B. Molchanov, M. Turdagin.

    Research work a good tradition of organizing stationary and mobile exhibitions showing the stocks, of solving problem of aesthetic education, imparting careful attitude towards the culture of our severe region.

    The geography of the gallery's exhibition activity extends, personal exhibitions of Norilsk artists' works and of the artists from other regions of the country are held
