The museum is situated in a historic building constructed in 1809. Nowadays, it houses 8 exhibition halls, the collections include over 5 thousand items.

    The history hall. The exhibition of this hall tells story about the foundation of the oldest town in the Republic, an important role of Temnikov and former Temnikov Uezd (county) of Tambov Province in the history of the Russian state.

    The largest exhibition hall of the museum is dedicated to the admiral of the Russian Navy, outstanding naval commander F. F. Ushakov. Documents, books, paintings tell story how admiral F. F. Ushakov built the Black Sea Fleet, about battles under the leadership of the great naval commander.

    The ethnography hall displays various objects of peasant domestic life, Russian and Moksha-Mordvin folk costumes.

    The department of nature shows exceptional natural beauty of Temnikov District.

    Military and patriotic education is one of the most important functions of work with teenagers. The exhibits in the Great Patriotic War hall stimulate visitors' imagination, make them reflect on the past, help to instantiate the story about fellow-countrymen from Temnikov who fought in the 1941-1945 war, to express gratitude for their feats of arms.
