The state Russian museum of photography was created on the initiative of the public of Nizhny Novgorod in 1992. It is located in the house where lived and worked the famous Russian photographers Andrey Karelin and Maksim Dmitriyev. The museum exposition shows the history of photography from the moment of its creation. In the museum are presented the unique collections of photographs, the wooden tripod cameras, "Kodak", "Agfa", "Leika", "Fotokor", "FED", "Zeiss Ikon", "Foigtlander" cameras and etc. Some of the most interesting exhibits are the stereo images, the holograms, the Dark room (laboratory), the camera obscura. On the first floor there are the exhibitions of Russian and foreign photographers. Here are held the master-classes on photography. Every year the museum organizes the region, all-Russian and international festivals involving photographers from all over the Russia and many other countries
