The South Urals is famous for it's art of Kasli and Kusa iron casting, steel-engraving from Zlatoust, stone-cutting art and
fine needle-works. The necessity of preserving, researching and developing of traditional art led for creation the Museum of decorative and applied art of the Urals on December 27, 1977. The Museum is situated in one of the best buildings in the center of the city (architect E. Aleksandrov) .
The suit of halls, decorated with stucco mouldings, harmonizes with the art of iron casting.
The famous crafts of the Urals -Kasli and Kusa iron casting, steel-engraving from Zlatoust, stone-cutting and jewelry art,
traditional fine needle-works, earthenware toys, the painted salvers, Yuzhnouralsk chinaware -all this could be seen by the visitors and guests of Chelyabinsk .
The collections of Kasli and Kusa iron casting show all the periods of their development from the beginning of XIX century until now.
The museum attracts artists and masters of traditional arts. The personal exhibitions, the presentations of new works, the film's shooting, the interviews for magazines and newspapers -all this is taking place in the museum. Here also works the expert commission of folk crafts.
Lot's of children come to see the works of traditional art. The museum's personnel created the cycles of lectures about decorative art for the children of different ages.
Nowadays the museum has become the symbol of the city. Thirty eight thousand people visit museum every year. Getting acquainted with the creations of folk masters the visitors are proud of being the inhabitants of the Urals.
