The Museum was founded by representatives of Russian,s intelligentsia. Now it is situated a monument of Russian classicism architecture. Collection includes painting, graphic works, sculpture, decorative-applied and folk arts by Russian and West-European masters XV - XX centuries. Many famous masters are connected with Ryazan: F.A. Malyavin, graphic P.M. Boklevsky, sculptor A.S. Golubkina.
