The Penza regional Art Gallery named K. A. Savitsky was founded in 1892 according will of N. A. Seleverstov, who was Penza governor. His own private collection of Western European and Russian art formed the basis of the museum. At different times directors of museum were academian of painting, well-known Russian artist K. A. Savitsky, academian of painting N. E. Petrov, honoured art worker I. S. Gorushkin-Sorokopudov. For 40 years the museum has been headed by honoured art worker V. P. Sazonov. Nowadays the collection of the museum has over 14 thousands article of art, decorative and applied arts, works of painters of the Penza art school. The peculiarity of modern exposition is 3 memorial museum included in its context. They are Savitsky's, Gorushkin-Sorokopudov's and Lentulov's museums. The collection of the Russian art of the XIX and of the bigining of the XX centuries rouses the greatest interest of visitors
