Arkady Plastov (1893-1972) - People's Artist of the USSR, member of the Academy of Arts of the USSR, laureate of Stalin Prize, Lenin Prize and the State Prize of the RSFSR in honour of I.Ye. Repin. Arkady Plastov is the pride and glory of Russian realist art. Throughout his life he was deeply linked with the Volga region, with Simbirsk - Ulyanovsk lands, with Prislonikha - native village, where drew inspiration and strength.
History of centre of Plastov's heritage in Ulyanovsk began in 1986, when was opened the Picture Gallery of Plastov. However, in difficult period for the development of culture of the 1990s the gallery was closed. Since 2008, with the order of the Government of the Ulyanovsk region became established the Plastov Museum as branch of the Ulyanovsk Art Museum. In 2010 was opened the Plastov Museum.
The exposition of museum includes more 50 original pictures by Arkady Plastov of the 1920s - early 1970s, such famous works as «Village in March», «Fire in the Field», «March Sun», «Rome. Appian Way». Great value represents early Plastov’s drawings, private things of painter, old photographs and objects of national life from Prislonikha, donated by peasants this village.
The Plastov Museum realizes various activities, the organization of opening days and meetings. A new branch of the Ulyanovsk Art Museum is true center for the preservation of cultural memory as an example of the life and work of the great painter
