Belgorod state museum of local history is one of the oldest cultural institutions in Belgorod region. It was opened on October 25th, 1924. During first few years there were about eight thousand items in the museum. In the Great Patriotic War it was destroyed by fascists. After war the museum began to work again. In 1964 Belgorod town museum of local history got status of region. In 1975-1991 the museum was situated in the building of Preobrazhenskiy cathedral, and then it moved in a new building at Popov street, 2a, where after three years was created a new exposition "About past time the memory coming back…". Representing exhibits introduce to nature and history of Belgorod region from ancient time to modern days
