Komsomolsk-on-Amur Local History Museum was founded in 1935 on initiative of the city first-builders came to erect the city in 1932. On the 10th of April 1939 the Museum was given the statue of the status of a public institution. During the Great Patriotic War (1941-1945) the Museum unfortunately did not work, so many of its exhibits were lost. In 1947 for the Museum's 15th anniversary the special exhibition was organized and its very materials became the backbone of the Local History Museum exposition. During its existence the Museum has undergone 5 reconstructions and a whole number of considerable re-expositions. More than 65 ths exposits are kept in the Museum stock, and they found the archaeological, ethnographic, natural science, everyday-life and photo-documentary collections which in the whole cover the history of Priamurie (Amur area) development from the Paleolithic age to nowadays.

    Main activities of the Local History Museum are: research, archive work, expositions and exhibitions, and elucidative activity. More than 30 thousand people visit the Museum annually. The Museum offers special educational programs for children and cultural events for the city's guests and inhabitants
