Description:
The Pushkin Country House Museum was opened in 1958 in Pushkin town (formerly, Tsarskoe Selo) in the house built in 1827 (the period of late classicism) which kept its architectural shape up to our days. This Museum preserved by time and fate is absolutely unique because it is located in the authentic wooden house on a high basement, with a verandah and balcony in the mezzanine. It was owned by A. Kitaeva, the widow of the Senior Gentleman of the Bed Chamber. Pushkin rented eight rooms in Kitaeva's house from May till mid September 1831 to enjoy his first summer of family life; those were the best months for the poet and his young wife Natalia. Pushkin met his friends, discussed literature and politics, entertained his relatives, walked in the Catherine garden and Tsarskoe Selo environs. Museum interiors, recreated according to the memories of Pushkin's contemporaries, and materials exhibited in the rooms tell about poet's life and work at that time. In the mezzanine, the walls of which recall Pushkin, poet's Study was recreated, where he wrote many of his masterpieces, such as Tale of the Tsar Saltan, Onegin's Letter to Tatiana, and others. A special section of the exhibition is devoted to Nickolay Karamzin and Vasily Zhoukovsky - Pushkin's senior contemporaries and literary mentors, who also lived in Tsarskoe Selo (visit included into the price of the ticket)
