Makar Mironovich Tokarev together with the veterans of the Civil War began to collect the information about those cruel years: pictures, documents and exhibit materials.

The museum was opened in 1978 in the former house of merchant Karpov on K. Marks street, there were also three halls dedicated to nature, peasant's way of life, military honour.
In 2002 the museum moved to the more spacious building on Lenin street.
Nowadays the assistants of museum work with the small villages. They explore and research-old manners, ceremonies, traditions, collect folk and ethno materials, which further used for traveling exhibitions of various themes.
