Description:

The museum of Cosmonautics in the Village of Shorshely began its existence as a school museum of cosmonautics. It was officially opened on December 14, 1972 in the presence of honored persons, including A.G. Nikolaev himself. That time there were about 350 exhibits in the funds of the museum.

On September, 1978 the school museum became the part of the Department of Culture of the Chuvash Republic and sine then it is the Branch of the Chuvash Republic Museum.

The museum is visited not only by the people of our country, but by foreign delegation from around the world.

In April 1993 the museum became the Branch of the Chuvash National Museum.

In 2001 a new building for museum was build. It is an unusual but very beautiful construction.

There are 4 halls in the museum now. An astronomy classroom with a planetarium has been opened recently.

Since October 2006 the museum has another name "The Memorial Complex of the Pilot-Cosmonauts of the USSR A.G. Nikolaev". It consist of the Rocket, a bronze bust to A.G. Nikolaev, the museum itself, the house where Nikolaev was born, a chapel where the Twice Hero of the Soviet Union is buried.

At present, there are about 5500 exhibits in the funds of the museum.
