The creative life of I.P.Pavlov was connected with St.Petersburg. The last 18 years of his life he lived in the so called '"House of Academician", situated on the 7th Line of the district, called "Vasilievsky Ostrov". The classical image, given to the building by the architects A.D.Zakharov and A.G.Bezhanov in 1806 - 1808 is preserved until now. The idea of creating such a museum occurred to the widow of I.P.Pavlov, Serafima Vasilievna, soon after the death of the 87-year old scientist in February 1936. This memorial was opened in 1949. The first director & the keeper of this museum was Pavlov's daughter Vera Ivanovna, who continued to live in the flat till the end of her life in 1964. The three rooms of the spacious six-roomed apartment present the memorial exposition of the museum. They have been maintained in their original way until now, including all the details of the interior. The widow and the daughter of Pavlov, who lived here during the II World War and during the blockade of the city by the German troops, managed to preserve not only the furniture, the books and the paintings in the flat, but also those minor details of the interior, that speak so much about the hobbies and the habits of the owner of the house.

    The interior of the apartment, kept untouched in its original way, still keeps the memory of the great physiologist and, at the same time, presents a typical specimen of a flat of the intelligentsia of Russia with an average income of the end of the 18th - beginning of the 19th century
