The State District Museum of Nature and Man (up to 07.05.1998 the Khanty-Mansiysk District Museum) was founded in July 9, 1932 by the decree of the Presidium of the Ural Executive Committee. It is the oldest museum in the okrug. For the visitors the museum was first opened in November 4, 1936. In the course of time, the museum collaborated with such well-known ethnographers as N. Prytkova and Z. Sokolova. In the 30-ies of the XX century, the museum collection was enriched by unique objects of worship which are the evidence of the religious views of the Ob-Ugric people: a shamanic complexes, sacrificial blankets, archaeological, bronze mirrors and plaques with graphic designs.

    The District Museum was reorganized into a museum complex called "The State District Museum of Nature and Man in May" in 1998 by the decree of the Region Governor. The concept of museum development was elaborated, which was focused on the large-scale challenge - turning the city of Khanty-Mansijsk into historical and cultural museum and tourist center of the region. It is assumed to museumificate the monuments of archeology and ethnography, to establish new and reconstruct functioning museums, including the District Museum.

    The permanent exposition "The Link of Times" consisting of "Rhythm of The Biosphere", "Mythological Time" and "Historical Time" is open to the visitors
