History of the museum dates back to December 1923. In December 2013 our museum will celebrate 90-th year anniversary. The founder of the museum is Nikolai Viktorovich Gureff - chairman of the county Bureau of Statistics. He also was amateur ethnographer. Museum was established on the basis of agricultural museum. The first director was Vladimiroff I.F. In the history of the museum were several stages of formation and development. The first was in 1917. The second - in 1920-th. In 1925, the museum was saved from looting and acquired ownership of the collection of weapons, furniture, sculptures, paintings from the former estate of the graphs Orloffs-Davidoffs in the village Usole and princes Gagarins in the village Zaborovka. Another pride of the museum is the collection of fossils up to the Jurassic. In December 28, 1925, was opened the first museum exhibition. That day became the day of birth of the museum. In 1927 organized art department. Throughout World War the Second the museum was working. In 1949, the museum of local lore renamed Syzran museum
