Description:

The Orsk Museum of Local History was founded on June 18, 1939 as a geology museum. The basic collection is represented by the natural resources from the eastern part of Orenburg Oblast. The museum has collected, kept and recorded the historical attributes of the town as well as the region for 70 years.

This is the only museum in Orsk. It comprises the Town Exhibition Hall and the Shevchenko Museum in the Orsk Fortress. On March 18, 2011 the Orsk Museum of Local History opened its doors after a reconstruction. The exhibition halls are equipped with the up-to-date facilities; additionally there are three touch-sensitive stands. The Orsk Museum has taken a ground-breaking approach and now is considered the most state-of-the-art museum in the region
