The museum one of the most ancient Russian museums was founded on November 24, 1830 by the edict of the Count Sukhtelen P.P. who held the post of Orenburg Military Governor at the time.
Nowadays the museum is located in the building of spherical republican architectural value - the mansion of the merchant A.I. Enikutsev.
The museum halls contain the expositions giving evidence of the foundation of Orenburg as a city and its provinces. Is also tells us economics and trade in this area in XVIII-XX centuries, about the military history, the processes of its educational, scientific and cultural development. There's the Nature Section in the ground floor presenting vegetation and fauna and natural resources of Orenburg region. The exhibitions of the most valuable museum possessions and the expositions exchange with the most outstanding Russian museums are held in other three halls.
The Museum is the visiting card, the embodiment of the grandeur and splendor of our native land. The most remarkable regional events such as signing the governmental treaties with some other parts of Russia and close and faraway countries, the receptions of delegations from abroad take place here. It has become a good tradition to honor the outstanding people of our territories, to award them by the regional Governor at the Coat of Arms Hall.
The Government of Orenburg region appreciated the Museum activities by awarding it the "Governor's Status in 2011"
