Toropetsky Museum of local lore was opened in 1924. The first exhibits were collected by local ethnographers. Unfortunately, much of this was lost during the Great Patriotic war.

    Since 1962, the Museum is located in the building of the Church of the Epiphany (XVIII century), situated on an island formed by two arms of the river Toropa, when she emerges from the lake Solomeno, in the heart of the ancient city (the territory of the former Kremlin). In 2006, the Museum created a new exhibition, which includes 4 halls: "The History of Toropets 16 - 20 centuries", where you can see the household items of the townsmen of Toropets, ancient weapons and many more; "The Life of the peasants of toropetskiy county"; "The Fortieth - fatal..." - an exhibition dedicated to the life of the residents of Toropets during the Great Patriotic war. Special interest of visitors is being in the military exposition standing peasant house, which is also the headquarters of the partisan movement during the war were on the territory of toropetskiy district.

    The Museum also has an exhibition hall for temporary exhibitions, which in a year is about 2 - 3. In addition to individual visits is provided excursions around the Museum and the city (by prior arrangement)
