Description:
The Aleut Museum was established in the middle of 1960th as a people's one. First two sections - Nature and History - were opened on 11 of June 1965. Kamchàtsky Regional Local History Museum helped to design professional exhibition in September 1966. This project was timed to 225-celebration of the Commander Islands discovery.

Nowadays, besides the exhibition devoted to Vitus Bering's exterior reconstruction and his 2 expeditions, you can see the colonization history of Commander Islands since the period of first Cossack artels of XVIII ñ. to Russian-American Company and the end of XIX c. when American Company "Hutchinson, Kohl, & Co" rented the fur-seal hunting on islands. The ethnography section demonstrates the nature management of Aleuts, their traditional culture and interpenetration of cultures. So, you can see the Neolithic camp from Command bay and Geological exhibitions. Moreover, you'll have lection about the origin and extinction of Steller's sea cow and Steller's spectacled cormorant.
